After losing his title to Rocky in their second fight, he rebuilt his career with humility, eventually training Rocky himself for the rematch against Clubber Lang in Rocky III. Apollo died in the ring during an exhibition match against Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, and he did not sacrifice himself to save Rocky. He never mentored Tommy Gunn, who appears in Rocky V.
